Gambling Myths 101

Myths and rumors come with every gambling game. However undesirable, they can be a good source of recreation. The major cause of these beliefs and tales is the uncertainty related with gambling.

Slot machines were first played in the late nineteenth century. Since then the machines have changed with more reels and increased number columns and slots, however, the basic concept of operating them remains the same. Players seem to devise various strategies to be a winner. The most common strategy advocated is to play safe with one's money. Play the machine till a pre-decided sum of money and if the trend of loosing does not change save the rest of the money. Another advice given by the experts is to prefer casino cards to casino meters. Other self proclaimed 'experts' boast to beat slot odds. This can hardly be true as the slot results are generated randomly through electronic number generators.

Blackjack is a pro-player game. The techniques and strategies suggested by some cannot be claimed to be foolproof. Playing with a single deck is believed to be easiest. With the increase in the number of cards the house advantage also increases and the out come of the game becomes highly unpredictable. Card counting requires skill and one needs to be a master of blackjack to carry out this technique. Though it involves simple mathematics, it can take hours to judge other player's hands to play a safe bet. Another technique is shuffle tracking. It is believed that mostly shuffles do not lead to random arrangement of cards and there is probability that certain sequences go unshuffled. This technique can be quite unreliable. Another argument is that the seating arrangement can affect the outcome of the game. This appears to be a myth and is discarded by most strategists.

Lotteries have the worst odd than any other gambling game. The most common myth suffered by the player is that "I can Win". This myth forces millions to participate and can also lead to ha\heavy losses for a few. Another myth is playing one's lucky numbers. This number can be the birth date, wedding date, or any other anniversary. Some people may also refer to numerologists.

Horse racing is one of the most popular and expensive forms of betting. The technique most people employ while betting on a horse is 'Handicapping'. This involves studying the horse's history - its performance, pedigree, medical history etc before betting on it. A rather fashionable practice to bring good luck is to wear fancy hats. The ladies wear colorful hats at the Kentucky Derby traditionally as a good omen.

While myths can be quite harmless and funny at times, a more unethical technique desperate players employ is cheating. The various methods used include the us of a tampered dice, commonly called a 'loaded dice', marking the cards with juice or special ink, or resorting to tricky shuffles. Cheating is essentially antisocial and should eb curbed.

Myths and folklores related to the games are good as long as they are healthy. However, if the player looses his rationality completely, they can be dangerous as well, leading to heavy financial losses. Myths are a mixture of hidden facts and lots of speculation and one should treat them as a part of the game.

Getting Started with Poker Affiliate Programs

Many people know what affiliate programs are, but few people know how to profit from them. One of the most profitable industries to be an affiliate for is the online gaming industry. Every year people bring home thousands of dollars worth of commissions from some of the top online gambling sites.

As an affiliate, it is his or her job to promote the product they are selling. Without people seeing the affiliate’s site or links the affiliate will never earn a dime. The key to success in any affiliate program is traffic. An affiliate must bring traffic to their website in order to make any sales or get any referrals. The easiest way, but most expensive, is to pay for your traffic. This is referred to as pay per click advertising or PPC. Most affiliates know all about this, and it can be a very good way to bring traffic to your site.

Many major search engines do not allow gambling content to be advertised so often smaller search engines are used. However some affiliates have been able to get advertisements up on google with some clever websites.

Many affiliates choose to write articles on subjects that they have knowledge of to promote their websites. These articles should be well thought out and not be a blatant sales letter. Start by brainstorming for a while, and eventually come up with an outline for the article. The article should be at least 250 words to be considered effective. Then submit the article to e-zines. These sites will be the source of the traffic from the article. This is a good way to get traffic to a site, and many marketers swear by it.

When choosing a casino or poker room to promote, be sure to do proper research. Their are many forums out there that discuss numerous affiliate programs in order to let fellow affiliates know of scams. Believe it or not some poker rooms do not pay their affiliates.

Remember that traffic is the key, and once you have traffic the money will come flowing in.

Slot Machines Get A Facelift

You may not have thought it but women and slot machines have a lot in common. If you ever go into the middle of the casino, close your eyes and just stand still for a moment you'll know exactly what I am talking about. Next time you visit the casino, just do it and you will remember this comparison and know what you read here is the sound truth.

If you don't visit a casino very often you will notice how the slot machines get a new make-over the next time you set foot in one. The machines come in all denominations and sizes too. For example, the new machine could be loudest one on the casino floor ringing out as though a jackpot has been hit each time the smallest of wins occurs.

The manufacturer will find something wrong with the earlier version of a particular machine and low and behold go back to the drawing board for more gaming excitement and a fresh new look. Then, the new and improved version will be louder and brighter, with a lot more appeal than the earlier incarnation.

Like slot machines, some women need more frequent or dramatic make-overs than others. The women you see in casinos are from all walks of life; some come in dripping with expensive diamonds and pearls and head straight to the $100 machine. You also see another "denomination" in T-shirts and jeans, pouring out the last of their child benefit into the nickel machine. The size thing doesn't really need to be addressed, but women are like slot machines, that is a fact.

If you are still standing in the casino with your eyes closed you will hear the slot machines over anything else. However, if you listen really closely, you will hear something like a yelp. It's a woman who's jabbering away, completely oblivious to the comparison that we have made today.

If she wins at the slots, we know exactly what will happen. Everyone in the casino will hear her whiny, screeching voice above the noise of the one-armed bandits and the casino in general.

So the next time the casinos have a new slot version to hit the floor and the lady your with is getting on your nerves with her hand stuck out for "more", think to yourself, what would the casino do?

Isn't it obvious? Go back to the drawing board of course!

Slot Machine Myths

Posted by admin on April 17, 2009
Casino / No Comments

Slot machines are a popular draw in casinos around the world, and even though each country has their different varieties of slot machines, the basic notion behind them all is the same. Traditionally, slot machines are coin-operated machines with three or more reels that spin whenever a lever on the side of the machine is pulled and released. Slot machines are affectionately nicknamed "one-armed bandits" because of their one-armed appearance.

Newer variations of the machine allow players to insert cash or even paper tickets with barcodes in order to play slot machines. Some of the more recent slot machines will even have a touch screen that starts the reels spinning.

Now, on to debunking some of the more popular myths about slot machines:

- The average slot machine never gets hot or cold. This is because the odds of a person hitting a winning combination of reels are determined by a random number generator that is built into the slot machine's software. The odds never change.

Amusement with prizes (AWP) machines in Britain are the exception to this rule. These AWP machines are progressive, meaning that the chances of someone hitting a winning combination increases over time if the machine has not paid out yet. Some of these machines will also grant winning combinations if it will help the machine to meet certain payout percentages.

- Though there is a logic behind where slot machines are placed out on the gambling floor, higher paying machines are not placed in areas with more traffic. Machines with similar payout percentages are put together.

- The temperature of the coins inserted into the slot machine will not affect the payout received. Slot machines do not sense temperature and payout different percentages depending on the temperature of the coins used.

- Using a slot club card will not affect the slot machine's payout. The card only allows the casino to monitor how much a player gambles with and the corresponding amenities that should be granted.

- In most jurisdictions, slot machines cannot have their payout percentages altered depending on the time of day or day of the week by punching in some numbers into a computer. To do this would require the replacement of parts inside of the slot machine and in many areas it would also require regulatory supervision.

Once again, British AWP machines is an exception to this rule, as these machines have percentage keys and dip switches, and changing the percentages does not require any supervision.

- Contrary to popular belief, a slot machine that has not paid out in a long time is not "due to hit." It is impossible to determine when a machine is due to hit since each spin is a random event and has no dependency on the spin before.

Pai Gow Poker: Card Game History and Rules

Casino / No Comments

Pai-Gow poker is an ancient Chinese game that first began being played in the US in the early 1800's. The game was changed a bit, with cards being used to play rather than the traditional use of tiles. It didn't make its way into casinos until the 1980's.

The object of Pai-Gow poker is to make two winning poker hands to beat the banker’s two hands. The player is dealt seven cards to be made into a five card hand, (which then becomes the high hand), and a two card hand (that becomes the low hand). These hands are then played and ranked as customary poker hands.

The only exceptions to this are: Ace, two, three, four, and five is the second highest straight, and the five card hand, which is the high hand, must be higher than the two card hand, which is the low hand. If the high hand and the low hand are better than the banker's hands, you win. If you lose on both hands, you lose the game, otherwise it is a push. The banker always wins hands that are tied, such as king queen vs king queen.

This game uses all 52 cards, and one joker. The joker can be used as an Ace to make a flush or a straight. In Pai-Gow poker the only plan needed is how much to bet and how to set your hand. In the event you get stumped and don't know what to do, you can show your hand to the dealer and they will tell you how the house would set the hand. Pairs usually win the two-card hands, and two pair usually wins the five-card hands, the only guesswork is when to split two pairs. This decision also depends on the house rules for splitting pairs. A hand that has no pairs is called a Pai-Gow.

This game is known as a relatively easy game to both learn and to play, making Pai-Gow suitable for both beginners as well as seasoned players. Pai-Gow poker is a slow moving game, which has the added advantage that a small bankroll can last a player long time. Pai –Gow is an interesting break from the usual game of poker, and is said to be an acquired taste. If you're looking for a change in poker games or just a break from the usual, you might like to give it a try.

An Easy Way to Become a Good Blackjack Player

Learning to play the game of casino Blackjack reasonably well is not rocket science, regardless of what the dozens of books on the subject would have you believe.

Playing professionally at the expert level, as is true of any game, is indeed complex and takes years to perfect. But anyone can become a good recreational player and have a fighting chance against the casino simply by learning some very easy rules.

So, if you're tired of throwing all your money away on brain-numbing slot machines, read on!

Blackjack can be as simple or as complex as you want to make it. Using card counting and advanced techniques, you can actually have a slight advantage over the house in certain conditions. That is, if you are willing to spend hundreds of hours learning and practicing, plus hundreds of hours each year playing!

Only a few of us have this kind of dedication.

The "beginner strategy" described below is designed for those of you who have never played Blackjack before or have played only a few times (and are tired of losing!). It requires that you learn only four simple rules. You can memorize these rules in 30 minutes or less.

Well, actually, much less!

You may have heard of the term "Blackjack basic strategy". The Blackjack basic strategy is a set of betting and hit/stand rules to statistically maximize your chances of winning. While not complex, it will still take some time and quite a bit of practice to learn and apply consistently.

For beginners, or very occasional players who don’t want to spend hours practicing the Blackjack basic strategy, here is a Beginner Strategy that won't give you a headache trying to learn.

While this will not give you the same low odds against you as the true Blackjack Basic Strategy (about .5%), it produces a low 1.5% or so edge for the casino, still one of the best odds you’ll find in any casino game.

You won’t lose your shirt and you’ll have a fighting chance of winning if you encounter a favorable run of cards.

It should only take a few minutes to learn these four simple Blackjack rules, though you should practice for a couple of hours to get comfortable with them before actually playing in a casino game.

FIRST, A SHORT AND EASY LESSON ON THE GAME RULES

If you already know how to play Blackjack, you can skip this section. Otherwise, it will only take a few minutes to learn the simple playing rules.

CARD VALUES

Tens and face cards count as 10, Aces count as either 1 or 11 (your choice), and all other cards have a count equal to their face value.

THE PLAY

All players play against the dealer, not against one another. Each player makes their bet and the dealer starts out by dealing two cards to each player and two cards to himself. The dealer's second card is dealt face-up for all players to see. If the dealer has a "Blackjack" (and Ace and a ten or face card), he will turn it over and automatically wins all bets, unless a player also has a Blackjack, in which case it's a tie.

Then, starting with the player to the dealer's left, each player has the choice of standing (not drawing any more cards) or being dealt additional cards. Play continues with that player until the player stands or "busts" (gets a card count that totals more than 21). After all players have made their decisions (or busted), the dealer draws additional cards to either reach a total of 17 or higher (when they must automatically stop), or bust. If the dealer doesn't bust, all remaining player's hands with a higher card total win, and those with a lower card total lose.

One very critical point to remember is this: you goal is not to get a card count as close to 21 as possible, but to get closer to 21 than the dealer, without going over. The goal is to beat the dealer! Thus, your decisions on whether or not draw additional cards are based on the value of the dealer's up card.

DOUBLING DOWN, SPLITTING PAIRS AND INSURANCE

There are three special bets you can make after the first two cards are dealt. Doubling down means you can double your original bet after you receive your first two cards. You then receive one – and only one – additional card.

Splitting pairs means that when you receive any pair on your first two cards, you can split them into two separate hands and play each one independently (of course, you must place an additional bet equal to your first bet on the second hand).

Taking insurance means that if the dealer's up card is an Ace, you can wager an additional amount equal to half your original bet as "insurance" in case the dealer has a blackjack. If the dealer has a blackjack, you lose your original bet but your insurance bet is paid at 2 to 1, so you break even.

"HARD HANDS" VERSUS "SOFT HANDS"

In order to understand and apply any Blackjack strategy, you need to learn the difference between ″hard″ and ″soft″ hands. This is because the strategies for various plays are different depending on whether you have a soft hand or a hard hand.

A ″soft″ hand is one that has an Ace which is counted as 11 (remember: Aces can be counted as either one or 11). For example, a hand composed of an Ace and a 4 is called a soft 15.

A hand that either contains no Aces or the Ace is counted as a 1 is called a ″hard″ hand. For example, a hand composed of a 6 and a 9 is a hard 15. A hand with an Ace and 4 is called a soft 15 (11 plus 4), but if you then draw an 8 you have to count the Ace as 1 instead of 11, giving you a hard 13 (because counting it as 11 would give you a "bust" hand of 23).

FOUR SIMPLE RULES

Here are four Blackjack basic strategy rules that anyone can easily remember. Always adhere to them exactly and you will be playing better then the majority of people who sit down at a blackjack table.

While these four rules do not represent ″perfect″ Blackjack basic strategy, they give you a great deal of the advantage of a perfect basic strategy and are very simple to memorize.

1. If the dealer’s up card is 7 or higher, continue to draw cards until you have a hard count of at least 17 or higher, or a soft count of 18 or higher.

2. If the dealer’s up card is 6 or lower, draw cards until you have at least 12. Stop when you have 12 or higher.

3. Double down when your first two cards total 10 or 11, IF the dealer has a 9 or lower.

4. Always split aces and eights. Do not split any other pairs.

And that’s it! These four simple rules will take you out of the "sucker" category, keep you out of serious trouble and ensure that the house edge is around 1.5% or so – some of the best odds you’ll get in a casino.

Once you've mastered this easy system, learn the full Blackjack Basic Strategy and you'll whittle that house edge down to almost zero. Good luck!

Blackjack — Terms and Rules

One of the most popular games called Blackjack was invented in France in the 1700's. Nowadays it is one of the most famous game played both online and in casinos. It is one of the simplest games to play. You only have to gain total points of 21 in the hand of cards you are dealt to win the game. But if you somehow scored more than 21 points, you lose the game there and then. The main part of blackjack is that the opponent is only the dealer and not the other players sitting at the table.

All the players get two cards both face down in the starting of the game. It is the dealer who deals the cards clockwise and would receive two cards with one of the card of the dealer faced up. The card with the face up is known as the 'up card'. The rules and regulations for game of blackjack are different from casino to casino and the amount of decks being used in the game. The points are distributed according to the cards, such as ten points are for the Kings, Queens, and Jacks; eleven points are for the Ace and rest of the cards have the same value as on the face of the card.

One of the interesting parts of this game is that the player automatically wins if he or she receives the first two cards as face card (Kings, Queens, Jacks and Ace) or card with a face value of 10. The payout to that player in such a case is 3 -2 and such a condition is called natural or blackjack in this game. There is a standoff if the dealer has the same hand as the player. The dealer wins all of the player's bets if he or she gets blackjack.

To play the game of blackjack you must be aware about the certain rules and regulations. Even if the rules vary from casino to casino but there are many standard rules. Some of such terms used in blackjack are as under:

Splitting Pairs: Player can split his card into two cards if the first two cards are pairs and can have two separate hands. The player can play each card separately and will bet the same on each hand. For example- the player can split the card of Aces, and if he gets 10 or face card then it would not be counted as blackjack even if it counts twenty one points.

Hit or Stand: It's not easy to choose between hit and stand. To get a higher total you need to take card from the dealer and for that you will have to hit or draw another card following the correct terminology. For example- you will get 9 points if you get an original hand of a 5 and 4. But remember not to go over 21 otherwise you would lose the game which usually occurs if you draw a card when you have both the face cards. The best way is to take a stand in this case. It is a rule in which the dealer takes a stand when the score is seventeen or more and draw when the score is less than sixteen.

Insurance: The player has the option to take insurance if the up card of the dealer is an Ace. Under insurance the bet by the player is half of the original bet the player placed. In such a case the player would win the game with a 2-1 if the dealer gets a blackjack and the dealer would win if its not blackjack.

Double Down: Player has the choice to double his bet on the original hand and take only one more card to improve the original hand if he uses this option.

Hard Hand: A hand without an Ace is considered as a hard hand. For example- your hand is considered to be a hard 19 if you have a hand of a 10 and a 9.

Surrender: The player may give up the hand after the original hand is dealt and instead of losing the whole bet but he will lose half bet. This rule is not applicable in all casinos.

Playing Blackjack Online: Playing game of blackjack is different from playing the game in real. You have to deal with virtual dealer when playing online blackjack. The cards are dealt using a Random Number Generator and then the game is played similar to the original game.

Soft Hand: A soft hand is when you have an Ace and a 9 in your hand. The main advantage of having a soft hand is that you will not lose the game and would be considered a hard hand (20 points) even if you draw 10 as your next card.

The game of blackjack is very popular and can be easily played in almost every casino. The tables in the casino are according to the minimum bet at the table. So, choose the table that suits your pocket and enjoy.
